Tuesday night the 26th February 2008 Bike Lights Initiative(had to be changed from Monday due to adverse weather conditions), in partnership with the Garda ‘bike squad’, went very well. There was good positive feedback from all participants. Cycling Campaign members distributed reflective vests and armbands. Thanks to everyone who took part.

The Galway Cycling Campaign and the Garda Siochana have teamed up in a community initiative aimed at encouraging more cyclists to make sure that they can be clearly seen on the roads at night. The initiative is a response to reports that significant numbers of people are cycling on the streets in the dark without lights or adequate reflective gear.

Criostóir Mac Gearailt (Need for more cycle lanes, Letters, January 4th) takes the view that “cyclists and indeed all other road users sincerely hope that the City Council will … move towards creating more cycle lanes in town”.
