23.11.2007 Feachtas Rothaíochta Na Gaillimhe ar Nuacht TG4

Hello Folks,

Did a piece to camera for an dathúil Irene ó Nuacht TG4 as Gaeilge highlighting the lack of bike parking facilitys in the city center and what Feachtas Rothaíochta Na Gaillimhe is all about. i.e Lobbying and putting pressure on the local authoritys to provide better facilities for cyclists in Cathair na Gaillimhe. From talking with Irene I think they want to focus on the bad traffic in the city center and possible solutions like encouraging people to cycle but that basic facilities like bike stands are not available.

Filmed from 14h20 – 14h50 today in the city center. It will be broadcast tomorrow or possibly next week (CW48) on Nuacht TG4.
Focused on Mainguard Street and then the Bridge Mills we showed two places where bikes were parked on the footpath attached to Sign Posts. I made the point that if one car parking space was removed outside the Bridge Mills it would provide parking for 8-10 bikes and highlighted that bicycles parked too railings and Signs were a particular hindrince for people with disabilities and the old.
Then took some shots of me cycling in heavy traffic overtaking stationary cars. St Pats School must have just finished because there was serious traffic jam at that time on Dominick Street, Bridge Street and Mill Street .
She wanted to take some shots of me cycling to work (as was starting at 15h00) – but made the point that it would take her far longer to get to the locations compared to me on the bike. Left Dominick street at 14h50 to go to work in Parkmore, Ballybrit. Was at work at 15h10. Beat that time in a car on a Friday afternoon in Cathair na Gaillimhe.

Slán go foill,

Oisín
